The country style first originated in America and recently it’s been used as a more vintage style than an updated look. The greatest challenge when you are trying to decorate your home in a country style is to make necessary changes in a way that you keep the values and principles which are the basics of the country style. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you can not have variety in country style home decor. There are number of different subsets from basic, rustic country to refined and elegant French country style. If you happen to understand the difference between these two differences, you can find the right balance between changes and similarities when you are trying to get the right country look.
Let’s take a closer look at the originality of the traditional American country decor. You can always use it as a base for country style decor. The characteristics of American country home decor are the simplicity in both design of the objects and functionality of everything. Often there are natural elements involved, flowers or floral prints. The colors schemes used are light and often based with a white, pale cream or beige tone. The rustic country style on the other hand is even more simplistic in form of objects and function. The presence of natural elements however is much more pronounced and all furnishing is made of wood which is often unfinished. But the color schemes used compared to the traditional American are a quite a bit darker.
Knowing this you can easily adapt your desired country style decor if you balance the different levels of the key elements, the natural and simplicity. If you add more natural elements you will lean towards the rustic country style. If you add more simplicity it will look more old-fashioned. But if you want an updated country style and sort of modern, then make things a bit complex and a bit less natural elements. And you can do this if make your natural elements less obvious. Instead of wood use stone as a basic material, granite counter tops for example. Also try and add elements that are not typical for the traditional country style home decor.
