I have a sewing business for customized interiors and I work with exquisite fabrics which I enjoy very much. I try to enhance my experience of beauty to its maximum by designing the details of my life. I call it Artful Living.
One of my many inspirations is fabric in all its beauty and diversity. Crisp linens, flowing silks or waxy cotton prints with glazed finish are all a delight to my senses. The house of Fortuny is one of favorite places that has my featured fabric.
My work involves close collaboration with my clients to get in their shows and create the exact house they want to live in and feel great about. Artful Living can encompass the fabric, textures, colors and the form of everyday things you are surrounded with. I make everything from the bedding to the creation of something exquisite. The rich experience of my work is extended in my Artful Living philosophy
If you look at life as a big feast then you can really start to enjoy all its pleasures and enrich you everyday experience. Your way of living can be artful if:
Raise and improve the quality of life in small details - It is not what you have, but how you match it and present it. Design your life as an antidote to the stressful living of today. Improve your life by carefully choosing your details. Raise yourself. Choose something that is special to you, something that can take you through time to the life of joy and happiness. Just a small picture frame of Florence which sits on a bookcase does that magic for me and transports me to one soft and warm spring evening in Florence and the atmosphere under the Ponte Vecchio. Do you have a piece that takes you back to your favorite corner of the world?
Grab Something and Make It Your Special Signature - Your special piece can be you bag, your tote or even your scarf. Take Barbara “Babe” Cushing Paley for example. She was a socialite and style icon in the 50’s and the 60’s. Babe tied her Hermes scarf to the handle of her handbag and became a trend setter for that time. Babe created a craze and everyone who thought to be anyone did the same with no questions asked.
Take Care of the Environment You Live in - You can have beautiful things and still respect the planet you live it. Your pieces can very well be fashioned from old, recycled and reused materials. It may doesn’t sound sexy but it’s true. I reuse old vintage kimonos and make pillows and totos and my clients absolutely love them. They love them because they are vintage, they are unique , they are limited and they are made especially for them from a high quality fabric that is no longer available. Having a custom made pillowcase or a tote that no one else has gives them the thrills. It’s unique. It’s theirs and it will never be made again. That makes them special.
Create Ripples of Goodness - If you embody it in yourself this way of living, you can transfer it to others. Just stop and think for a second how special you feel when someone compliments your stylish taste. Your increased sense of joy when you go about wearing your signature peace can be well perceived and enjoyed by others. The same way you can maintain the details of your work environment in an artful way. I keep a fresh cut flowers in a small ceramic vase, an elegant Japanese piece with Gerber flowers. It keep me vital and in a good mood. I keep it on my work desk in my office and every day these beautiful flowery colors and fragrance give me a get away into beauty. They help me renew my senses of focus. You can experience the same. You just have to choose your artful design that is meaningful to you. You can make your life art and by expressing joy and radiating positive vibes you will enrich your life and the life of others surrounding you.
