Depending on your space layout, your living room can serve many different functions. So as you start your living room remodeling think about the space’s overall purpose. Once you establish that think what kind of storage would work best. Finally be sure to bring some personality to the space. Regardless of its purpose, every space needs these five essentials. So let’s look at each one into detail.
Clean space - Design a furniture layout to keep in mind that the circulation space is not obstructed. Why? Because in every home plan there is either one entrance lobby or you walk in directly in the living room. From there you have entrances to all other spaces in your home, whether it is the kitchen, bedrooms, patios, staircase or other rooms. You need a layout that will keep the circulation space clean and therefore you need to carefully arrange the layout first on a paper and then in practice.
Future Occupancy - Plan ahead what will happen if you happen to throw a big party and you need to have many people gathered in your room. What will you do in such situations for sitting? How will you rearrange the furniture? Will you move the dining table in the living room or will you have people stand or sit on the floor? Whatever you have in mind, plan ahead for the future. Trust me, you will need it.
Balance - As mention above a bare minimum circulation space is essential. Therefore you need to create a visual balance between the space occupied by furniture and the clear space. Since most of the time the main entrance is only through the living room you need to allow a sufficient amount of free space to be able to carry big pieces of furnitures to the other parts of your home. So look at the project as a whole we you design the living room and not just the living room. The living room is a part of a bigger project and that is the overall atmosphere in your room. Keep a balance.
Ventilation - Think about ways you will vent your living room, naturally or artificially. If you have a large room and large ceilings, you have the perfect proportions. If you are going to use fans, then where will they be placed? Hung from the ceiling or mounted on the walls?
Decorative colors - When you decorate your living room, don’t be afraid to use bright colors but also don’t over go overboard either. Try and keep it charming with a welcoming attitude. Remember that the living room is the first place you see when you enter your home, so use inspiring colors to add a touch of beauty.
Furthermore, think how you will decorate your living room. You want to feel welcomed when you walk in. Another advice that you may find useful is to use neutral sofas, armchairs and ottomans and go bold with accessorising the space. Rugs, mirrors and picture frames for decorations; throw pillows and curtains for added color; table lamps and ceiling lighting for extra light, Hang colorful artwork on the walls and you have the done.
Enjoy.
