Inteoduction: Calebasse workshop Step one: Firstly, we had to try calebasses hanging from a tree. Size of the calabass was important depending on what you wanted to make and the look of the calabass, the shine and color, pointed out the ripeness of the calabass and if it was ready to be used. Step two: We had to make sure we’ve found the right place that is appropriate for work and that we have a protective mat on the floor, so we don’t ruin the wood underneath. Also, adequate clothes have to be worn and protective gloves must be used, as to not leave stains on fabric and/or rash and irritation on skin. Step three:We cut the calabass in half, depending on what we want to make the line we split it at will move accordingly, and using spoons (or your hands with gloves of course) we scoop out the inside of the calabass, after which we wash it with water and leave in the sun to dry. When the calabass is dry, it is ready for decorating. Step four: Decorating may be done with a small electric grinder or with markers and pens, leaving behing your own personal calabass to use as a bowl, candle, ashtray, or anything else you made it for.
